In this episode of Failing to Success, Chad Kaleky interviews Dan Claps, founder of The Franchise Playbook. Claps helps people become franchise owners by guiding them through the process and providing them with the necessary resources. Claps shares his story of exiting his previous business and selling it to private equity. He learned a valuable lesson from the experience that owning a business requires putting business systems in place, so it can run without you, and nothing should depend on you as the owner. Claps decided to explore franchise opportunities to learn how to build systems that work. He fell in love with the process of owning a franchise and started a franchise consulting business in 2014 where he helped people interested in owning a franchise. In 2016, he started a lead generation company to connect people to franchise opportunities.
Claps believes that building a business is not just for earning a living, but it should also be done with the intention of creating enterprise value and wealth generation in the long term. He emphasizes that the goal should be to build a business that is more valuable in the longer term, even if it means earning less money initially. Chad agrees with Claps' methodology and operates in a similar way with his software subscription business.
The Franchise Playbook provides a model where Claps helps potential franchise owners become familiar with the different franchising options available to them. Claps then works with clients to match them with a franchise that aligns with their interests, goals, and financial situation. He guides them through the process, including the legal and financial aspects, so that they can be successful franchise owners.
